Garment Care

Garment Care

The right care routine starts with the individual dress. Fabric, lining, trims, and finishes can all affect how a garment should be cleaned and stored. Use the guidance below alongside the care instructions supplied with your item.

Read the Care Label First

Check the garment's label before washing, drying, ironing, steaming, or using a stain treatment. Follow its instructions for the whole garment, including any lining or decoration. If the label is missing or unclear, contact us before cleaning.

Care Instruction What to Check
Machine Wash Follow the stated water temperature, cycle, and any washing precautions.
Hand Wash Use the temperature and handling instructions provided. Check any restrictions on soaking, rubbing, or wringing.
Do Not Bleach Avoid bleach products, including oxygen-based bleach. Check the ingredients of stain treatments before use.
Do Not Tumble Dry Follow the alternative drying method specified, such as line drying or drying flat.
Dry Clean Only Take the garment to a professional cleaner and point out any stains, embellishments, or special finishes.

Prepare Before Cleaning

Empty pockets and check closures and decorative details. Separate garments according to their care instructions and colorfastness information. Choose a cleaning product suitable for the fabric and follow its dosing instructions.

Where machine washing is permitted, a suitable laundry bag can help protect delicate details from snagging. The garment's label still determines the appropriate cycle and temperature.

Consider the Fabric and Construction

  • Denim: Check for stretch fibers, coatings, and special finishes, as these can change the recommended cleaning method.
  • Knitwear: Support the garment during handling and drying. Fold heavier knits for storage when hanging could stretch them.
  • Mesh, lace, and delicate trims: Keep them away from rough surfaces, open fasteners, and items that could catch the fabric.
  • Embellished dresses: Pay attention to restrictions affecting beads, sequins, hardware, or attached decorations.
  • Coated or faux-leather finishes: Confirm the permitted cleaning method before washing, ironing, steaming, or using solvents.

Handling Spills and Stains

Gently blot excess liquid with a clean, dry cloth without rubbing the mark into the fabric. Check the care label before adding water, detergent, or a stain-removal product. Where a treatment is suitable, follow its instructions and test it on an inconspicuous area first.

For a dry-clean-only item, an uncertain stain, or a delicate finish, seek advice from a professional cleaner. Tell the cleaner what caused the stain and whether you have already applied a treatment.

Drying, Ironing, and Steaming

Follow the drying method on the label. If tumble drying is allowed, use the stated setting. If drying flat is required, support the garment on a suitable flat surface and arrange it gently into shape.

Check the permitted ironing temperature and any steam restrictions before applying heat. Take particular care around prints, coatings, elastic components, and decorations. If heat treatment is unclear, ask for advice before using an iron or steamer.

Storing Your Dresses

Store garments clean and fully dry, away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture. Use suitable hangers for dresses that can be hung, with support that avoids stretching the shoulders or straps. Fold heavier knitwear and keep delicate trims away from snagging hazards.
